Abstract
Background and Purpose: This study was perfomed to examine the effect of neck strengthening exercise on postural control in sitting position during reaching in children with spastic diplegia.

Subjects and Methods: The participants were six children with spastic diplegia CP in this study. The subjects in the experimental group were participated in neck strenthening exercise for 5 times per week over 6 weeks and the control group was participated in a ordinary neuro-developmental therapy. The surface electromyography was used to get the muscle activity from the neck extensor muscle, sternoclavicularmastoid muscle, lumbar extensor muscle, and rectus abdominalis which showed the effects of neck strengthening exercise.

Result: First, there were significant differences in RMS of the neck extensor muscle, sternoclavicularmastoid muscle, and lumbar extensor muscle on reaching forward and forward 10cm test for the extremental group between pre-post training. Second, statiscally significant difference were founded in RMS of the neck extensor muscle, lumbar extensor muscle on reaching sideward and sideward 10cm for the extremental group between pre-post training. Third, we founded significant differences in the RMS of the sternoclavicularmastoid muscle on reaching forward and forward 10cm between the extremental and the control group.

Conclusion: Acoording to the results of this study, it has been shown that the neck strenthening exercise effet on improvement of the neck and trunk muscle activity on reaching. Therefore, it purpose a better effective therapeutic intervention to solve the problem for a head instability and insufficient of a connecting the head and the trunk in chidren with spastic diplegia due to a premature.
